It was one of the great vintages of the modern age. This was the first year when numerous estates started making special wines from single vineyard sources, parcel selections or producing wine from their best barrels or oldest vines. So, this was a great time to try something new in Chateauneuf du Pape. After a rainy early spring, everything fell into place. Fruit was strong. The flowering was even, there was minimal bacterial or fungal disease. Veraison was beautiful. The summer and harvest seasons were warm, sunny and dry. The grapes ripened well. The tannins were structured and well developed. The evening remained cool preserving necessary acidity. Together this was a recipe for fine aging.
